On March 10th, under the early morning light in Beijing, former Guangzhou team general and former international footballer Mei Fang, made a farewell declaration on social media, marking the end of his playing career.
Below is Mr. Mayfair's retirement speech:
"Looking back to June 18, 2014, it was a day to remember, a night of glory and dreams. On that day, I wore the national team's uniform for the first time, standing on the green field, with the national anthem playing, my heart was both nervous and proud. Eight years have passed in the blink of an eye. During this period, I have had the honor and pride of always being a key target of the national team.
However, the goodbye bell has finally rung. A knee injury prevented me from returning to my former peak, and I had to wave goodbye to the national team and my playing career. I would like to thank the FA and the national team for giving me a warm and precious gift. I would like to thank all the coaches, teammates, doctors and staff who have worked with me, for your trust, support and help.
If meeting is the prelude to parting, then parting is to pave the way for the next reunion. My career as a player is about to draw to a close. Next, I look forward to gradually completing the coaching course through unremitting accumulation of theory and practice, and stepping into the coaching position with my feet firmly planted on the ground, and hope that I can continue to add bricks and mortar to our country's soccer career in the future.
In conclusion, I would like to express my deepest wishes: may our national team get out of the doldrums and take one step at a time towards a brighter future."
"Go China!"
