In a recent interview with French media footmercato, former Guoan team foreign aid Bakambu revealed that he chose to come to our country to play soccer, mainly based on economic considerations. Initially he planned to stay for a maximum of two or three years, and was pleasantly surprised by the superbly beautiful city of Beijing, as well as its connection with Barcelona.
Talking about his experience of joining the Chinese Super League back then, Bakambu said, "I did it more to boost my income. Everything is easier when you decide to pursue your career. I played in my country and I was lucky enough to sign an excellent contract and stay in top form. I am well-liked in the team and work well with my teammates. Beijing is a mesmerizing city and I've gotten used to everything here that has allowed me to grow.
"Honestly, initially I planned to stay for 2-3 years at most, but I left only after my contract expired. Time has flown by and it's been 4 years. I gained countless happiness there and it was a valuable experience." Bakambu confessed that he also did not expect to stay in China for so long.
Meanwhile, Bakambu said, "I want to return to Europe. At the same time, my family life has changed. I became a father. Many things have changed. I needed to come back here, to my family. It's completely normal to watch your children grow up. I place a lot of importance on relationships, and that's important. I was pleasantly surprised by my connection with Barcelona and I use it as a source of motivation to push me to continue to perform. This proves that my efforts in China have paid off."
When asked if he has had specific contact with the club, Bakambu said bluntly, "Yes, I have had a lot of contact. Now I have to make a decision and we will see how it goes. I hope I can make the right decision. I'm 30 years old, but I still want to play football and I know there are many good times waiting for me."
Bakambu terminated his contract with Guoan on November 30 last year and is currently a free agent. He joined Guoan in 2018 and has made 91 appearances for the team, scoring 61 goals and dishing out 24 assists.
