On August 20, Beijing time, the official website of FIFA unveiled the latest ranking list of women's national soccer teams of the World Football Federation (WFF). China's women's soccer team has plummeted by 60.79 points to 1,814.22 points, slipping from 15th to 17th place in the ranking. Although it still maintains the fourth position in the Asian region, it is only slightly ahead of the South Korean women's soccer team by less than four points. The Canadian women's soccer team, which just won the championship, moved up two spots to sixth place, while the U.S. women's soccer team remains at the top of the overall standings.
It is worth noting that this is the third time in the year that WFC has released its women's soccer national team rankings, and the first update since the Tokyo Olympics. Looking back at the Tokyo Olympics, our women's soccer team, led by Jia Xiuquan, lost 0-5 with Brazil, drew 4-4 with Zambia, and ultimately lost 2-8 to the Netherlands, conceding 17 goals in a 1-2 loss, and ended up in 10th place out of the 12 participating teams.
The poor performance at the Tokyo Olympics has reduced our women's soccer team's points by 60.79 points compared to the previous period, now with 1,814.22 points; the ranking has also dropped two places to 17th. In the AFC rankings, our women's soccer team is ranked fourth after North Korea, Australia and Japan, while the South Korean women's soccer team is close behind by only 3.33 points.
In the overall global standings, the U.S. women's soccer team continues to lead the way with 2,110.25 points, despite a decrease of 87.04 points, due to its previous points advantage. The Swedish women's soccer team, runners-up at the Tokyo Olympics, added 78.20 points to move into second place from fifth in the previous edition. Germany, Netherlands and France women's soccer teams are in third to fifth places respectively. It is worth noting that the Zambian women's soccer team moved up 10 places as a result of the draw with our women's soccer team, not only returning to the top 100, but also reaching an all-time high of 94th place.
The only team from Asia in the top 10 rankings is the North Korean women's soccer team, which sadly has not played in a world-class tournament in the last two years or so. It is predicted that WFC will release the 2021 year-end rankings for the women's national team on December 10th.
