Daegu FC's Journey

In the first two rounds of the AFC Champions League group stage, Daegu FC accumulated three points with one loss and one win, and is temporarily in second place in Group I. In the first round, Daegu FC lost to Kawasaki with two leads. In the first round, Daegu FC lost 2-3 to Kawasaki despite taking the lead twice, while in the second round, they achieved a 7-0 win against Union City. Currently, Daegu has four foreigners in its squad, including Brazilian trio Edgar, Cecinha and Sergio, as well as Japanese midfielder Nishi Tsubasa. Last year, Daegu finished 5th in the K-League and were lucky to catch the last train to the AFC Champions League after being voluntarily relegated due to Sangmu's relocation. This season, Daegu are 4th in the K-League, just 4 points off top of the table Ulsan, and have managed to reach the last 8 of the AFC Cup. In order to keep their chances of getting out of the group, Daegu can't afford any slip-ups in their two-legged match against Guoan.

In the first two rounds of the AFC Champions League group stage, Guoan drew 1 and lost 1, accumulating 1 point, and tied with Kawasaki for third place in Group I with 1 point. In the first round of the tournament, Guoan drew 1-1 with Union City with a direct free kick from National Youth League captain Liang Shaowen after trailing by one goal, and lost 0-7 to Kawasaki in the second round. Over the course of the two games, Guoan racked up five shots on goal, only two of which were within goal range, making the gap between the young team and the mature one obvious. Though not as strong as Kawasaki, it will be no less difficult for Guoan to get points from Daegu, and the most realistic goal is to get out of the shadow of the 0-7 defeat in the last round, stop the big defeat and score again.

In the pre-match press conference, Jankovic said, "Tomorrow's match is our third group game and we still have to face strong opponents. We are indeed a young team, but we have to do our best to show our best performance. If we compare the strength of each group horizontally, we will find that our group is quite strong and even if the first team arrives, we will face fierce competition."

History of the encounter

Guoan and Daegu have never had a head-to-head record. In the AFC Champions League, Guoan has played the South Korean team 22 times with a record of 4 wins, 5 draws and 13 losses.
