
Starting out in Boca's youth academy, Rodrigo Bentancur made his professional debut in the league on April 12, 2015, coming on as a substitute.
Seven months later, on July 13, 2015, with the return of Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors, Bentancur also became a potential target for Juventus, with a price tag of €9.4 million at one point. By 2017, Juventus managed to bring him on board for €9.5 million, plus performance bonuses, and signed a five-year deal. Meanwhile, Boca Juniors retained the right to 50% of the proceeds of future transfers.
During the 2016-17 season, Bentancur returned to Argentina to help Boca Juniors for the remainder of the season.
