Growing up in the cradle of Rivera, Araujo initially joined Sporting Lentista in Uruguay's second division, and on September 24, 2016, he opened a new chapter in his career when he came on as a substitute in the closing stages of a 1-0 win over Tacuarembo.
A year later, on July 28, 2017, Araujo's career took a turn for the worse when he moved to Uruguayan Primera División's Athletic Boston River, where he made his debut on September 18 of the same year, replacing his teammate Sigueres in a game against El Tanquihithli.
On August 29, 2018, Araujo joined La Liga giants Barcelona for a transfer fee of €1.7 million plus a variable clause of up to €3.5 million, going straight into Barcelona's reserve team to participate in La Liga B.
