On June 14th, the Beijing time zone reported that Austria beat North Macedonia 3-1 in a heated Europa League Group C match. The goal scorers included Lerner, Gregoric and Arnautovic, with Arnautovic particularly impressive as a central striker for Shanghai Harbour in the Chinese Super League.
Particularly notable was Arnautovic's winning goal, making him the second Chinese Super League (CSL) player, after Yilmaz, to score in a Europa League match. The achievement also means that two consecutive Europa League tournaments have witnessed spectacular goals from Chinese Super League players, with Yilmaz having made such history in 2016.
The Chinese Super League has thus become the league with the most goals scored outside of Europe in the Europa League. Going back in history, before Yilmaz and Arnautovic, only one player playing for a club outside of Europe had scored in the UEFA Europa League, and that was Slovakian winger Weiss from the last Europa League, who scored while playing for Qatar's Qarafa, just six days after Yilmaz.
