The Guam team arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on May 23rd for their first match in the second half of the Qatar World Qualifier Asian Zone Top 40 tournament. After completing the necessary body checks and medical isolation investigations, the team will depart for Gusau the following day to be stationed in Group A's epidemic-proof red zone.
Guam's journey began on May 20, when they departed from their home island of Guam and flew to San Francisco, USA, to meet up with the players playing there, before connecting from San Francisco to Shanghai.
The match, originally scheduled for June 11, was moved up to May 30 as a result of consultations between the Chinese Football Association (CFA), the Guam Football Association (GFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The Guam team also specifically requested to arrive in China a week earlier in order to acclimatize to the climate and field conditions.
Behind this request from the Guam team was the lack of natural pasture in the only artificial pasture in their country within the National Training Center and their desire to prepare for the tournament under more favorable conditions. Eventually, the CFA agreed to the request.
According to regulations, upon arrival at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the Guam team was required to comply with strict epidemic prevention measures, including undergoing a physical examination at the airport and then proceeding en masse to a designated quarantine site to undergo isolated medical observation.
After completing all physicals, the Guam team will depart from the quarantine site and be transported directly to the Soochow tournament to be stationed in the quarantine-proof Red Zone.
