Wang Frost Interview: Intertwined Challenges and Glory
In a recent CCTV face-to-face program, Chinese women's soccer star Wang Frost shared her journey and preparation experience.
Talking about the preparation process, Wang Frost revealed, "During the training sessions, each player ran more than 10,000 meters, and everyone gritted their teeth and persevered."
Recalling the match that eliminated the South Korean women's soccer team, Wang Frost was overwhelmed with emotion: "At that moment, I was in tears and relieved. After returning home from Paris, there was a lot of skepticism, but I was so happy to score a goal in a big game and help the team get a ticket to the Olympics. Overtime is all about physical fitness, and we are confident that even if we are down 0-2, we can still come back and win, thanks to our 130 days of hard training."
Wang Frost said, "Training is indeed very hard, wearing a heart rate belt in every class, monitoring running data, joint pain is the result of long-term wear and tear, we can only clench our teeth and insist." After speaking, she choked with tears in her eyes and said, "Once we stop a training class, we may not be able to keep up with the next training volume, so we can't stop, we must persist."
Due to the epidemic, the Olympic women's soccer qualifiers became chaotic, and Wang Frost, who is a native of Wuhan, also experienced the closure of Wuhan: "I trained at home on my own, but the intensity was far less than the amount of training under Jia's guidance." Talking about the Chinese women's soccer team's trip to Australia during the Chinese New Year, Wang Frost said, "From the initial anxiety and impatience to the gradual acceptance, I admire my teammates very much. We scored first and I screamed at home, and I lost my voice when we were tied in the last 80 minutes or so."
Talking about the preparation for the match against South Korea, Wang Frost mentioned, "Jia always emphasizes that there should be no pressure, even if the responsibility for the loss is ours, we just need to show the training content."
Talking about playing for her country, Wang Frost said, "People can only see you on the national team stage. Usually at the club, there are fewer broadcasts and fewer spectators in the women's soccer league, so it's especially empty to play on the field."
Wang Frost also talked about her upbringing, she mentioned, "My brother played soccer before me, then followed the boys, I was the only girl, I didn't feel any different, at that time to exercise my spirit of not giving in."
Speaking about her expectations for the Olympics, Wang Frost said, "I am very much looking forward to it and believe that women's soccer can make a breakthrough."
Wang Frost also shared her experience of staying in France, saying, "I was in awe of Li Na's tennis obsession, and her personality was a bit like mine when I was a kid. I didn't know French and wasn't fluent in English, but adapted quickly. In France, I felt lonely but conquered my teammates through strength and action."
However, at the 2019 Women's World Cup, Wang Frost's performance was mediocre, stating, "I despaired when I couldn't help the team on the pitch and didn't even have a single beautiful assist. Shining abroad, but one person's progress can't change the team, we need to give more to fight against other national teams."
After the International Cup, Wang Frost terminated her contract with Grand Paris early and returned to the national team: "During that period, I felt that I had lost the joy of playing football, and Jia guided me to help me adjust my mentality and give me confidence, so that I could rediscover my love for soccer."
