Jinan National Football Club Tofu Trademark Dispute
Oriental Sports Daily disclosed that on May 14, Jinan National Football Tofu Catering Co., Ltd. of the trademark invalidation case of the second instance of the administrative decision was announced, its application for registration of the trademark "Slap Foot" was determined to be invalid.
The Jinan National Football Team Tofu Company has registered the trademark "摑足" on products such as curd, tofu and its products. According to the owner, the name of the sign seems to have been inspired by fans' jokes about the national soccer team. However, the store displays photos of the king of soccer, Li Huitang, and the glory days of the national soccer team.
However, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court held that the trademark contained derogatory and ironic connotations of the "national football team", which could lead to negative and adverse effects. In response, Jinan National Football Team Tofu Company appealed, but the Beijing High Court recently upheld the first instance decision.
