On May 16th, at the Hankou Culture and Sports Center in Wuhan at night, Wuhan Sanzhen and Gusu Dongwu were in a fierce battle in the fifth round of the first stage of the 2021 season's Central League. In the first half, both sides failed to break the deadlock. However, in the second half, Hu Mingfei captured a corner kick in the 76th minute and leapt up to break the opponent's door with a header. In the 92nd minute, Wuhan Sanzhen's Edmilson added a shot from inside the penalty area to equalize the score. In the end, Gusu Dongwu and Wuhan Sanzhen drew 1-1.

After the game, GUSD head coach White faced the media straight away. He said, "First of all, it is important to recognize that this was probably the best game our group has played so far. Both teams were eager to fight for points, but we missed too many chances. In the final stages of the game, we were outscored by our opponents and probably at the end of the day, there was only one team that wasn't too happy and that was us." Talking about his opponent's review after five rounds of matches, White added: "First of all, in terms of budget, Wuhan Three Towns is undoubtedly the leading and top team, plus a Taiwanese player and three foreigners. Today, our team showed that an all Chinese team can compete with them as well, and I am proud of my players. Despite the strength of our opponents on paper, tonight, we think it should have been us who deserved the three points."
