Rodriguez on his Ballon d'Or dream

Speaking to ESPN in an interview on September 12, Manchester City midfielder star Rodri revealed that winning the Ballon d'Or is his vision and that Spanish soccer is on track to win the award after 64 years.

Rodri said fondly, "Yes, winning the Ballon d'Or, that's my dream. Some people questioned why it wasn't me but Iniesta or Xavi."

"I deeply share the same feeling. They are undoubtedly legends in the history of soccer, but let's not forget that they were in the glory days of Melo."

"If I win the Ballon d'Or, it will be an honor for me and for the whole country. A Spanish player who can win the Ballon d'Or is enough to make everyone proud."

"The world of soccer has always been a cluster of greats. I think Spain deserves this moment of honor as well, because we have produced a multitude of great players who have written history at club and national level."

"Some people think Vinicius is my number one rival. I have a lot of respect for him and think he's very good. To be at the center of this conversation makes me proud of my efforts. Frankly, many players deserve this award, so let's see what happens."

"Imagine when I walk down the street and hear people say to me 'You're going to win the Golden Globe', it feels like I've already won it. For me, it means I'm at the pinnacle of success. People believe I can be the best in the world and that amazes me to no end. It's something I never dared to think about."

"When you're in a situation like this and you look back on the years of hard work, the trust of others, and the help of everyone, you realize how incredible the opportunity to win this award and reach this height is."
