Amidst the social media hubbub, on May 14, former international footballer Xu Liang revealed a unique behind-the-scenes account of his time spent as a commentator reading about the Shanghai Port tournament.
Xu Liang recalled, "I remember in 2020, I made my debut as a commentator for the Hong Kong team matches of the new Chinese Super League season on a live broadcast platform. Since then, the official platform seems to have been particularly stingy with my requests to commentate on the Hong Kong team's matches. Imagine, it is okay to express personal inclination in the live broadcast room, but I am afraid that the guide would feel uncomfortable if I show an offensively biased attitude in the official commentary box. Xu Liang, your feelings towards the Harbor Team are really deep, perhaps it's not really appropriate to get involved in Harbor Team's commentary work in the future. Since then, I have not been invited to commentate on Harbour games for about three years. I hardly ever talk about Harbor games unless I have to, because of my teaching duties."
"Looking back, there were two matches between Harbour and Chengdu last season where I was asked to commentate as the number one guest at key moments. In both matches, I took on the role of commentator and unfortunately, both ended in losses. Perhaps Seaport fans have expressed their displeasure on the pop-ups and want me to stop commentating on Seaport matches."
