Compared to last year's star of the Chinese swimming scene, Qin Ocean, this year's Breakthrough of the Year award went not to Qin Ocean, but to soccer superstar Bellingham. Despite Qin's impressive performance, he was unfortunately unable to win the award. Since joining Real Madrid last year, Bellingham's career has rocketed, with 21 goals and 10 assists in 36 games for Real Madrid this season.

As for the rest of the awards, we were fortunate enough to witness more than our fair share of excitement.

Alyssa Theroux, a young female skateboarder, is up for the Extreme Athlete of the Year award. She made history last year by becoming the first woman to complete a 720 degree spin move and performed extremely well throughout the season.

And the Sports for Good Award of the Year went to the Nadal Foundation, a program dedicated to harnessing the power of sport that has helped more than 1,000 disadvantaged young people in Spain and India to unlock their potential.

In the field of disabled athletes, Dieud de Groot was honored as the Disabled Athlete of the Year for his extraordinary 53 singles victories and his third consecutive victory in all Grand Slam tournaments.

Gymnastics great Simon Biles, who was honored as Comeback of the Year at last year's World Championships after winning four gold medals, including a record sixth all-around title.

And in women's soccer, the Spanish women's team won the World Cup for the first time with an outstanding performance, winning the Team of the Year award.
