World Qualifier Asia 36 tournament referee introduction
On March 21st, Asia 36 will face Singapore, and the match will be refereed by Australian referee Sean Evans. The referee was introduced in detail in the "Soccer 100" column of Beijing Radio and Television.
Official information indicates that Evans will be the referee for the China-Singapore match, with George Laclindis and Owen Godric as side referees and Lebanese Mahir Ali as the fourth official. It is worth noting that there is no video assistant referee for this 36-team world qualifier in Asia.
The "Soccer 100" column looks back at Evans's first-round Asian Cup group stage match between Oman and Saudi Arabia, which was narrowly won by Saudi Arabia in injury time thanks to a controversial corner kick. Oman failed to qualify for the next two group matches, coached by current national coach Ivankovic.
Evans has been refereeing since 2008, growing from assistant referee to referee and moving to full-time referee in 2016. he became an international referee in 2017, was named Australia's best referee in 2019 and was a video assistant referee at the World Cup.
Evans enforced four Chinese Super League matches in China in 2013, and in 2014 he was invited to enforce the first leg of the FA Cup final between Shandong Taishan and Jiangsu Suntian. he red carded Zhao Xuri when he enforced the 2013 match between Beijing Guoan and Guangzhou Evergrande.
The program also mentioned that Evans differs from most referees when it comes to penalty calls, as he is usually very adamant about his first call.In February 2022, the Australian Refereeing Council apologized for the penalty kick in the Melbourne 3-2 Central Coast match, as Evans made an error in judging Melbourne's penalty kick. The national soccer team should be wary of giving Evans a chance to blow the whistle against Singapore.
