Wuhan Three Towns Summer Window Signing Storm
Wuhan Three Town's big signings in the summer transfer window have attracted attention. Not only did they successfully introduce Evergrande's former defender Park Chi-joo, who played in the Portuguese Super League, but they also ushered in powerhouse local players such as Duan, He Xi and Jiang Zhipeng.
However, these three new recruits did not receive full trust from the coaching staff after joining Wuhan Three Town, and their playing time was limited. He Xi made seven appearances, including six as a starter, while Jiang Zhipeng had eight appearances but only four as a starter. More frustratingly, Shandong Luneng's former international player Liu Yu also failed to get much of a chance to play.
According to the data, Duan Liuyu was transferred from Shandong Luneng to Wuhan Sanzhen on July 15 on loan. Since joining, Wuhan Sanzhen participated in a total of 14 games, Duan Liuyu only got 8 appearances, debut only 3 times, becoming the summer window of new recruits in the debut of the fewest number of players. From this phenomenon can be seen in the Wuhan Sanzhen head coach's tactical system, Duan Liuyu seems to have become dispensable "chicken ribs".
Looking back on Duan Liuyu's career over the past few years, his experience has been quite bumpy. Since Hao Wei took over Shandong Luneng in October 2020, his situation in the team has taken a sharp turn for the worse, from Li's favorite to a marginal figure in the team. After Cui Kangxi took over the team this season, Duan's situation still hasn't improved. Before the summer window, he only had two appearances in Shandong Luneng.
Duan Liuyu chose to join Wuhan Sanzhen on loan. He originally expected to be utilized more in his new home, but the reality disappointed him once again, failing to get rid of the fate of the team's fringe players.
Duan Liuyu is a highly regarded and outstanding talent in the Chinese Super League. With his outstanding academic performance, it is entirely possible that he could have been admitted to a prestigious university if he had focused on his studies. But he chose soccer, and the Luneng Soccer School became the starting point of his dream. Duan Liuyu was so talented that he was promoted to the Shandong Luneng first team at the age of 20, and became a mainstay of the team at the age of 21, winning the Best Newcomer award in this season's Chinese Super League. Due to his outstanding performance in the league, Duan Liuyu was quickly called up to the U23 national team and became the center of the midfield, and was regarded as the future hopeful of the national team.
However, unexpectedly, only four years later, 25-year-old Duan Liuyu fell from the peak to the bottom of the valley, becoming the "chicken ribs" in the Chinese Super League, losing stable playing time. If this situation continues, the talented Luneng star may be completely discarded and reduced to a loser. This is certainly a regrettable thing.
