Since stepping down from the national team, Alihan has had a brief stint as coach of Chongqing Lifan. At the end of 2009, he stepped into the coaching seat of Tianjin Teda with a new soccer philosophy. In 2010, TEDA won the second place in the league, and in 2011, the team went one step further, reaching the last 16 of the AFC Champions League and winning the AFC Cup. Alihan's outstanding contribution has made him an indelible coach in the history of TEDA soccer.
However, at the end of April 2016, he chose to say goodbye as his health could not continue to withstand the immense pressure of coaching and soccer management work. Now, at the age of 67, he has settled leisurely in the southeast of Spain, the beautiful town of Denia on the Mediterranean Sea, where there is a villa with a pool, which has become a cozy harbor for him to enjoy his old age. The Dutch soccer legend is spending happy times with his family.
But the story doesn't end there, as the 74-year-old has decided to embark on another Chinese soccer journey. So, do you think Alihan can lead Guangxi Pingguo to a successful promotion push?
