United's decision makers appear to be hesitant about where Greenwood's future is heading and have decided to postpone the big decision until after September's international days.
While United will still be carefully assessing Greenwood's return plans ahead of the September internationals, the club prefers to detail the progress of the investigation in front of key stakeholders in a bid to gain their understanding and support.
Since February this year, the 21-year-old has been embroiled in an internal United investigation. All charges against him were dropped after "key witnesses suddenly withdrew their claims". Greenwood himself has again stated that he denies any allegations.
With the start of the 2023-24 Premier League season just around the corner, United had intended to make a decision on Greenwood's stay at that time, but now they seek more time to set out the details of the investigation to key stakeholders.
Meanwhile, United's women's players are preparing for the Women's World Cup, with Mary Earps, Ellatone and Katie Zelem opting to stay in Australia to prepare for Wednesday's semi-final against the Aussies.
Greenwood has not donned a Red Devils shirt since the 2021/22 season. In 129 games at Old Trafford, he has contributed 35 goals.
Greenwood scored six goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 season after scoring 12 goals last season. He was also selected for his first full season with the first team with 17 goals.
