The controversy over Chengdu Rongcheng's last-minute equalizer against Qingdao Hainiu in the final period centered on whether it was an offensive handball and whether the goal should have been ruled invalid. It is reported that Chengdu Rongcheng has filed a complaint with the Football Association (FA), whose response has not yet been finalized.
Did Palacios constitute a handball before Iverson scored? The FA's silence has sparked a wide range of opinions. Someone sent the controversial footage to former Super League referee Clattenburg, who watched it and clearly stated that it was not a handball and insisted that the goal was valid (please refer to the picture below).
Clattenburg's judgment seemed to justify the 3-3 scoreline. But it didn't end there. Another, clearer video shows Palacios' hand not touching the ball (see below), and a reversal seems to be creeping in.
More interestingly, during the battle between Palacios and Qingdao Hainiu #8 Ma Xingyu, Ma's hand seemed to inadvertently touch the ball (please refer to the picture below). The incident seems to have taken a turn for the worse in the drama.
The reversal sparked heated debate among fans (see below). Some argued that even if it was not intentional, it was not Chengdu Rongcheng's fault. Other netizens pointed out that the referee failed to award Chengdu Rongcheng a penalty kick and blew away the opponent's goal instead. Some fans thought it was a tragedy that a great comeback play was misjudged. Others were convinced that Chengdu Rongcheng was the victim of the misjudgment.
We thought that the top referee in China, Ma Ning, with the aid of VAR, could ensure the fairness of the game. However, even the "Golden Whistle" made a mistake, treating a valid goal as invalid.
In fact, the replay of the game is blurry, and Palacios' hand is so close to his body that even if the ball grazed his hand, it would not have changed its direction. Therefore, the goal should have been valid.
But Manning's "serious" attitude - seeing the referee signaling a handball, it may be prejudged as a handball by the attacking team, and then look for evidence in the video. In the end, in line with the principle of "preferring a thousand wrong judgments, not to let go of a good goal", in the fuzzy video found that the goal is invalid.
The most important thing that referees should avoid is subjective judgments overriding objectivity and the lack of uniform standards; instead, they make judgments based on personal preferences. Some referees have different penalties for different teams, actions and results for the same foul. This time, even the "Golden Whistle" of the Chinese Super League was not spared. Should the FA suspend the referee? This level of professionalism obviously can not be performed in international competitions, but only on the sidelines "playing cards".
