In the landscape of Chinese soccer, the stereotype of athletes often conjures up images of overpaid but underpowered players, coupled with an undisciplined approach to life that seems to portend a bleak future for them. However, such a label does not apply to every Chinese player. Zheng Zhi, the 41-year-old veteran of Guangzhou Evergrande, is one of the best. Not only is he still showing great athleticism in the Chinese Super League at the age of 39, but he is also the captain of the national soccer team, so perhaps hard work is the key behind all of this?

Zheng Zhi is not an isolated case. There are many disciplined, hard-working and skillful players like him who, even though their physical fitness, speed and confrontation abilities have declined with age, play a decisive role in critical moments with their wisdom and deep understanding of soccer. Wang Song, a 40-year-old veteran, is one of them. He came on as a substitute and brought a victory for Nantong Zhiyun, and also added a colorful chapter to his career. In the 11th round of the Chinese Super League (CSL), Nantong Zhiyun and Qingdao Hainiu engaged in a fierce battle for relegation. The two sides went back and forth, but could not break the deadlock. In extra time, Wang Song stepped forward with a wonderful long-distance shot to make the score 1-0, Nantong Zhiyun miraculously won the relegation battle. The goal was not only Wang Song's first of the season, but also his 22nd consecutive season of scoring. Wang Song's career has been a dramatic one. He played from the First Division to the Second Division, and people thought he was about to retire. However, at the age of 39 and about to turn 40, he rejuvenated himself and shone in the Chinese Super League with the passion and vigor of a young 18-year-old player. This is undoubtedly a testament to their love of soccer and their tireless efforts. In comparison, our young players seem to lack motivation. They grow up in a favorable environment, earn far more than their predecessors, and have an advantage in age, yet they often fail to excel on the pitch. This makes one ponder: why not learn from these seniors and aim for higher achievements with their diligence and hard work?
