Challenge after challenge, Ranil was about to embark on a new journey in his career when life caught up with him. The combination of the new coronavirus and deep vein thrombosis in his right leg had him thinking of retiring.

However, Ranil eventually pulled through. After surgery to remove a hidden leg problem, he took nine months to recover and gradually picked up his game. 2022 saw him join Vasco da Gama on loan, where he made 45 appearances against stiff competition, contributing 16 goals and helping the team return to the ranks of the Barclays Premier League.

At the start of the new year, Lanier almost landed in Mexico, but negotiations broke down and he ended up back at Santos. Here, however, he did not find favor with manager Herman. In the center forward position, he is ranked behind Marcos Lennardo and Revan Secco, and so far in the new season, he has only made two substitute appearances.

After an amicable negotiation, Ranil and Santos officially terminated their contracts on Monday. The free agent is about to embark on a new journey, flying to China to sign a work contract with Qingdao West Coast Music Department.
