Wuhan Changjiang suffered a 1-2 defeat in the penultimate round of the Chinese Super League (CSL), the 33rd round, in the late afternoon of December 27th when they visited Chengdu Rongcheng, a result that saw them lock themselves into the bottom three of the league a round earlier, and thus drop into the sub-league's Central League One.
Wuhan, a city that carries an important part of China's soccer history, was one of the pioneers of China's professional leagues. 1994, Wuhan's Wugang 1st and 2nd teams played in the 1st and 2nd divisions respectively. 2005, Wuhan Tianlong and Huanghelou finished 5th in the Chinese Super League, but in 2008, Wuhan Nanyi Valley retired from the league after the 18th round, leaving Wuhan, and the whole of Hubei, without a Chinese Super League or 1st division team. Wuhan and Hubei as a whole to lose track of teams in the Chinese Super League and First Division. In order to protect the flame of soccer, the Hubei Football Association created a new soccer club based on the original Wuhan Football Spark U-19 team (i.e. Hubei Eleven Luck Team). On February 17, 2009, Wuhan Changjiang's predecessor, Hubei Green Football Club, was officially established, and won the second place in the Chinese League B. On December 14, 2011, the Zhuoer Group took over Wuhan's soccer team, and the team won the second place in the First Division League in the following year. The following year, the team won the second place in the First Division League. However, one season later, Zall was relegated again. After five years of hard work, Zall won the First Division title in 2018 and finished sixth in the Chinese Super League in 2019.In 2020, they were relegated with a 3-2 victory over Greentown in the relegation playoffs. On February 15, 2021, "Wuhan Zall Professional Football Club" changed its name to "Wuhan Football Club". "Wuhan Football Club. Last season, Wuhan came close to relegation, but eventually managed to stay there. On February 16 this year, Wuhan Football Club changed its name again to Wuhan Changjiang Football Club. This season, Wuhan Changjiang encountered many operational difficulties, but their performance in the early stages of the league was remarkable, winning the first three rounds to lead the table. Even after being deducted three points by the CFA on November 5, they were still in the safe zone. However, the second point deduction on November 23rd dropped Wuhan Changjiang to the relegation zone, making them the second-to-last team. Although the deduction of 9 points allowed the team to briefly escape the relegation zone after 28.29 rounds, the team was soon back in trouble. With a final record of 8 wins, 4 draws and 21 losses, the team was expected to be relegated early, but after deducting points, they were still unable to escape from relegation with one round left in the final round of the league. Wuhan Changjiang was penalized by the CFA for failing to enforce the rules on salary repayment. The current situation shows that even if they succeed in relegation in terms of results, carrying a debt of 4 billion dollars, it will be very difficult for them to pass the CFA's access to the Chinese Super League next year, and even access to the professional league will be difficult to guarantee, as the Zhuoer Group no longer intends to provide financial support for the club. Meanwhile, Wuhan Three Town are in the midst of an all-out sprint to the Chinese Super League title, while Wuhan Changjiang have been relegated a round earlier, and their path to relegation seems unlikely to recapture the splendor of their 2013 relegation and return to the Chinese League One.
