In a grand atmosphere on Nov. 20, the head of international soccer, Gianni Infantino, faced the media and his views on North Korea's possible hosting of the World Cup sparked widespread interest.
"FIFA's mission, ultimately, is to connect, not divide." Infantino's words ring true, "We are concerned with fair play on the pitch, not political jockeying. What we aspire to is for more people to feel the power of soccer and to write a chapter of unity together.
"I have set foot on the soil of North Korea, where the people have an endless passion for soccer. I once suggested that if the DPRK was willing, we could join hands with South Korea to co-host the Women's World Cup. Although that attempt did not work out, I would be willing to set foot on that land again, no matter how many times, if I thought it would promote regional harmony."
"Unity, this is the force that moves the world forward. We, at FIFA, are ready to be the bridge that connects the globe and promotes unity." Infantino's words reveal a strong conviction.
