In the second round of the 2022 FA Cup 32-16 on November 17th, a shocking accident took place. Chinese Super League giants Beijing Guoan were held to a 90-minute draw by Jingchuan Wenhui, an amateur team from the Chinese Championship, and lost 3-5 on penalties and 5-7 on aggregate, bidding farewell to the last 16 of the FA Cup. Jingchuan Wenhui, an amateur team from Jingchuan County in Gansu Province, finished 15th in the Chinese Champions League in 2021 and made it all the way to the final in 2022. The team's skipper, a name familiar to Jiangsu fans - Yin Youyou - was once a striker-killer for the Jiangsu team. It was this Jiangsu soccer celebrity who led a little-known amateur team that managed to beat the Chinese Super League giants.
Only 5 minutes into the match, Jingchuan Wenhui got a free kick opportunity on the right side, Du Zexin shot at the goal, Guoan goalkeeper Guo Quanbo was caught off guard and Wenhui took a 1:0 lead.
In the 35th minute, Zhang Chengdong launched an attack, Ruan Qilong's precise pass, Liu Guobo grabbed the goal in the middle, Guoan team 1:1 equalized.
In the 50th minute, Jingchuan Wenhui's goalkeeper made a flying save and the referee showed a yellow card. Cao Yongjing hit the penalty kick to put Guoan back in front 2:1.
In the 70th minute, Guoan made a mistake at the back, and after Jingchuan Wenhui broke the ball, Liu Jianxin adjusted his pace and calmly shot the ball to equalize the score to 2:2!
Although Guoan attacked frantically for the rest of the match, Jingchuan Wenhui goalkeeper Cui Tonghun made a number of heroic saves to keep the goal intact. The two sides eventually went into a penalty shootout.
Both sides managed to break through in the first three rounds of the penalty shootout, and in the fourth round, Wenhui's Liu Jianxin's shot was parried by Guo Quanbo, but the ball still rolled into the goal.
Guoan's Kim Tae-Yeon missed a penalty kick, allowing Wenhui to lock up an early win in the fifth round of penalty kicks.
Wenhui's final round of penalties was a very different kind of action, with players approaching the spot at a constant speed and taking a step back, swinging their legs in place and shooting, eliminating Guoan from the tournament.
In an exciting moment of victory, Jingchuan Wenhui celebrated in full force as the amateur team defeated the Chinese Super League giants, a feat that will forever go down in the FA Cup history books.
Meanwhile, the losing Guoan team questioned whether the Wenhui team's last penalty kick was illegal. The players complained to the referee, but the result of the match did not change.
