The Spanish soccer federation has spoken out urgently today after a collective strike by Spanish women's soccer referees over their treatment led to the first round of La Liga women's soccer matches facing suspension.

The FA statement made it clear that professional referees at all levels have expressed their firm support for the position of female referees in La Liga. The working conditions they demand are in keeping with their professional status. These referees invest a great deal of time and effort in training, preparation, travel and matches to enhance their profession, and this dedication should not be compared to the performance of other professions, and they deserve to be respected and rewarded accordingly.

Professional tournaments should not be dominated by amateur referees as all clubs involved are professional in nature. All levels of soccer in our country should work together to promote women's soccer and win worldwide recognition, and our professional tournaments should reflect this spirit.
