A spirited women's soccer friendly came to an end in the Sept. 7 edition of Sports Alert, with the U.S. Women's Soccer team defeating the Nigerian Women's Soccer team by a 2-1 score.

It's worth noting that after the match, the U.S. women's soccer team, along with the country's men's soccer team and the federation, announced a historic collective bargaining agreement aimed at achieving a landmark breakthrough in equal pay for equal work.

The move makes the U.S. Soccer Federation the first soccer governing body in the world to distribute FIFA World Cup prize money in equal shares to men's and women's national teams.

The origin of all this has to be traced back to May 18 this year. On that day, the three parties formally reached a preliminary agreement to realize equal pay for equal work.

This agreement, which will extend until 2028, covers the following economic provisions:

1. The subsidies received by players will remain the same for all international tournaments, including the World Cup.

2. Both men's and women's soccer teams will enjoy equal commercial revenue sharing mechanisms.
