The Iranian capital is in a state of turmoil, with shocking news coming from the soccer world: legendary Portuguese coach Queiroz, known as the "madman", is coming back and is expected to take charge of the Iranian national team on the eve of the 2022 World Cup.

Iranian media broke the news on September 5 that this week the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) will officially announce the return of Queiroz. The decision means that the 69-year-old will replace Croatian manager Dragan Skosic, who was previously sacked for a poor record and then miraculously reinstated.

Iran's state news agency has revealed that the new Football Federation president, Tajer, is closely considering the return of the Portuguese tactician to Iran.

It is worth mentioning that Tajer is not the first time he has served as the president of the Iranian Football Federation (IFF), having held the post between 2016 and 2019.

Looking back at Queiroz's coaching career with the Iranian national team, he has led the team at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, making him the longest serving head coach in the history of the Iranian national team. This year, Iran will be making their sixth trip to the World Cup final round, where they will be competing against England, Wales and the United States in Group B.
