After much deliberation by the senior management of our club, we announce the official appointment of Li Wei Feng as the head coach of the first team of Guangzhou City Football Club with immediate effect. Zhao Junzhe, on the other hand, will be transferred to the position of Technical Director, ending his duties as the Interim Head Coach of the First Team.
Li Wei Feng, a player who has left his mark on the soccer field, has equally rich experience in coaching the first team of the Chinese Super League. He represented the national team 112 times, making him the player with the most appearances in the history of the game, and is the only male soccer player in China who has played in both the World Cup and the Olympics. After his retirement, he served as deputy general manager, team leader and head of the coaching team of Tianjin Tianhai Football Club, and in the 2019 season, he was entrusted with the task of leading the team to relegation. We expect Li Wei Feng's joining will bring new tactical concepts and fighting spirit to the team, and make the team more resilient in the face of challenges.
We would also like to thank Zhao Junzhe for his hard work and dedication during his time as acting head coach, where his sense of responsibility and commitment was demonstrated at key moments. He and Li Wei Feng have had many years of tacit cooperation in the national team, and in the 2004 Asian Cup, they jointly captained the team, which makes us believe that their hand in hand will bring new vitality to Guangzhou City.
Currently, Guangzhou City is at the critical moment of relegation. Although the road ahead is full of challenges, we firmly believe that under the leadership of the new coaching team, the team will be revitalized, work together and go all out to complete the relegation task this season.
