Just a short time ago, Zheng Zhi just took over the coaching whip of the Guangzhou team, shouldering the team's relegation burden, this task is undoubtedly a huge challenge for him.

Back on August 13, Guangzhou decisively changed their head coach after a 1-2 loss, while Zheng Zhi was appointed back to the coaching bench at the risk. Meanwhile, Liu Zhiyu will take over the position of head coach of the team's ladder team.

Since joining Guangzhou in 2010, Zheng Zhi has spent 12 years with the club, trying his hand at almost every possible role from player to captain to assistant coach, executive manager and head coach. He even briefly served as the general manager of Guangzhou Evergrande at the end of 2020.

In the 2021 season, Zheng Zhi served as the team's executive head coach and player, leading the team to four wins, two draws, and two losses in the final eight rounds of matches, finishing third in the league. At the end of the season, he was selected to be part of the National Football Team's coaching staff, assisting the national team in the World Preliminary Round 12.

On April 24, the national football team ended its isolation in Haikou, and Zheng Zhi returned to Guangzhou. At the Guangzhou team base, he found that even his personal belongings were kept intact, as if telling of his former glory.

In an interview with the team's senior management, Zheng Zhi was expected to stay with the team, but given the state of the team at the time, he ultimately chose to leave.
