Recently, Chinese women's soccer star Wang Frost departed for the United States to meet her new coach and teammates. In a foreign country, Wang Frost accepted a remote interview with People's Daily and was truly emotional.
Reporter: Wang Frost, why did you choose to join Louisville Athletic Women's Soccer? Can you briefly introduce the situation of this club?
Wang Frost: The world is so vast that I am eager to go abroad and broaden my horizons. I know that I still need to stay in the ocean during my peak period to further my education so that I can return better. Previously, I have had experience in Asia and Europe, and I chose the Americas to experience a different style of team. The Louisville Athletic women's soccer team is located in Kentucky and is an up-and-coming force in Major League Soccer. Interestingly, the team's head coach, who coached the Chinese women's soccer team Beijing Beijin Phoenix in 2018 and 2019, told me that he had been watching me. Little did I know that we would have a chance to work together in Louisville.
Reporter: What is your attitude towards this stay in the national team? Water guide and teammates support you?
Wang Frost: Shui and the FA are very supportive of me going abroad, hoping that I can see more of the world. The parting with my teammates made me feel sad, especially Wu Haiyan, whose departure made me unable to hold back my tears. I felt very relieved as Shui explained a lot of my daily affairs and reminded me of the things I need to pay attention to in terms of technical and tactical matters during my farewell.
Reporter: How are you adapting to the new team and the new environment?
Wang Frost: When I came to my new club, I met my new coach and teammates, and they were all very enthusiastic. The team also told me that no matter what problems I encountered in life, I could always seek help from them. This time abroad, I participated in the Alipay and FA's Staying Abroad Support Program, and started an online English course two months before I left the country. The team has prepared independent apartments for the players, which are very convenient for living, training and playing. I am slowly adapting to the place and my teammates are helping me to familiarize myself with the surroundings.
Reporter: How is your communication with Wuhan Jiangda Women's Football Club?
Wang Frost: The Wuhan club has been very supportive of me staying in China, and when I confirmed my signing with Louisville Athletic Women's Soccer, they quickly helped me with all the paperwork. I am very grateful for the club's support for me, the JU women's soccer team will always be my home, and no matter what the future holds, my first choice is still to return to my country and my hometown.
Reporter: Do you have any pressure or motivation to join the club this time?
Wang Frost: This time I stayed in the ocean, my main purpose is to learn and feel. Compared to the year I was 23 years old, my mind is more composed.
Reporter: What goals have you set for yourself in this stay?
Wang Frost: I hope to be stronger on my return.
