In attention news, on July 18, the AFC officially unveiled the list of potential hosts for the 2023 Asian Cup, in which Australia, Indonesia, the South Korean Football Association and the Qatar Football Association have all submitted letters of intent to the AFC to bid to host the tournament.
In the midst of the intense bidding process, the AFC sent the bidding regulations to all member associations as early as June 17th. By August 31st, the bidding associations will be required to submit complete bidding documents. By then, the AFC Secretariat will conduct an all-round evaluation, and on October 17, the Executive Committee will announce the final host country.
Looking back at the bidding process, July 15 is the deadline for AFC members to submit a letter of intent to host the tournament. Prospective bidders are required to first submit a letter of intent, after which the AFC management will submit a report and recommendations to the Executive Committee, which will ultimately select a new host for the 2023 Asian Cup. It is worth noting that the AFC had set June 30 and July 15 as the deadlines.
The Asian Cup, which was originally planned to be held in China from June 16 to July 16, 2023, has been affected by the epidemic, making it difficult for the Chinese organizing committee to ensure that the tournament will be held in a fully open mode. After many discussions, including the AFC, CFA and the 2023 Asian Cup China Organizing Committee, the decision was made to move the tournament to another country.
In addition, the AFC has put forward strict requirements for the bidding conditions, including the provision of at least five stadiums with a capacity of more than 20,000 spectators for the group stage, 1/8 finals and 1/4 finals, with a capacity of 40,000 spectators for the semi-finals, and more than 50,000 spectators for the opening and closing events, the opening match and the final.
