It is worth noting that Son Jun-ho returned to the national team camp after 10 months since qualifying for the 2022 World Cup with South Korea last September. Chinese Super League player Kang Sang-woo, on the other hand, failed to make the cut. Son Jun-ho's participation in the East Asian Cup is still in doubt due to an injury he sustained in the Dalian Ren match, and he is expected to return to Korea in the near future.
South Korea's head coach Bento emphasized, "Regardless of who the opponents are and how strong they are, we are participating in this East Asian Cup to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar." He highlighted that the team will be focusing on the physical recovery of the players as the hot climate will require the team to complete three matches in eight days.
The South Korean national team is scheduled to gather at Incheon International Airport on the 17th and then fly directly to Japan to prepare for the match.
