Early in the morning of June 30th, a bombshell of news hit the soccer world: the Korean Football Association (KFA) formally submitted an application to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to bring the 2023 Asian Cup event back to their hometown. It's a decision that has made the blood of countless South Korean soccer fans boil, as it's been nearly six decades since they were hosts of the glorious 1960 tournament. The trophy is still lying quietly in the display case of Korean soccer.

Originally, the 2023 Asian Cup was scheduled to be fiercely contested in ten cities across the country, however, just in the middle of last month, the country's Football Association (FFA) suddenly announced that it had given up the right to host the tournament, leaving the top tournament in Asian soccer facing the dilemma of re-siting. Faced with a vacancy, the AFC acted swiftly to extend the deadline for bids from June 30 to July 15 in a bid to see more aspirants step forward. At present, Japan, Qatar, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Australia and other soccer powerhouses have rumored willingness to bid, in the end who will become the host of this soccer feast, the answer will be revealed in October this year's AFC Executive Committee.
