Fast forward to May 29th, when news broke in South Korea that the legendary Hiddink, who led the Korean men's soccer team to the quarterfinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, was on his way back to the country for a series of lively celebratory events. Hiddink arrived at Incheon Airport in the late afternoon of May 28th and was greeted by enthusiastic fans. From June 1 to 6, he will be involved in a series of grand celebrations, including a seminar organized by the Football Association. More intriguingly, on June 3, he will also make an appearance at the 2002 World Cup's Legends Star Match. With a full schedule, Hiddink is expected to bid farewell to South Korea on June 7th. "I had a great time here twenty years ago, and now that I am back again, I am deeply honored to see the Korean people so happy." Hiddink said fondly, "This revisit is to commemorate the glorious achievement of the 2002 World Cup." It is worth noting that Hiddink was also invited to South Korea's celebrations in 2012, the 10th anniversary of the World Cup. After leaving the national team coaching job, Hiddink continued to shine in soccer, coaching PSV Eindhoven, the Australian national team, the Russian national team, Chelsea, the Turkish national team, the Dutch national team, the Chinese national Olympic team and the Curaçao national team. It was not until September 2021 that he officially announced his retirement, ending a storied coaching career.
