Over the years, the performance of the Chinese men's soccer team has been so worrying that it has become the focus of angry criticism from fans. Not only that, but the frequent negative news about the men's soccer players has also led to widespread skepticism about their professionalism. However, there are also a group of players whose professional attitude is impeccable. In a recent interview with the Brazilian media, Luo Guofu, a naturalized player of the current national football team, revealed that he had decided to quit drinking for a whole year in order to maintain his best condition, a move that was quite praised.
Lokok Fu revealed that he was playing for Brazilian side Catarinense at the time, and after failing to win 15 consecutive matches the previous season, he decided to turn over a new leaf and made a vow to stop drinking. This decision ultimately helped him to reach the pinnacle of his career.
"I promised myself that I wouldn't touch a drop of alcohol for a year, when all I wanted to do was devote myself to soccer. Not only did I give up wine, I didn't even drink beer. During my year at Catarinense, I did quite well. I scored 15 goals throughout the season, but unfortunately the team ended up losing the cup final." So said Lo Kok Fu.
Though quitting drinking doesn't mean that Lowe Kok Fu believes that alcohol itself is harmful. He admits that giving up alcohol was not easy: "Beer is a good thing, and there's no harm in drinking it in moderation, but too much is not advisable. I swore off alcohol, but then I went to São Paulo, something I never mentioned to the public because it didn't sound cool. But it was. Giving up alcohol made me feel relaxed and helped me lose weight."
Alcohol is a real minefield for professional players, and the history of soccer is littered with cases of careers ruined by alcoholism. However, most players are still willing to drink moderately in their free time. But there are few who are as determined to quit drinking as Luo Guofu, which may be one of the reasons why he has been able to maintain a high level of competitive performance over the years.
