Former Chinese Super League (CSL) goalkeeper Yang Cheng recently spoke out publicly on the hotly debated topic of the national soccer team, having traded barbs with Gong Hanlin on social media platforms regarding the recent controversy surrounding the team.
"Just after a busy day, I arrived home to a multitude of messages of concern from my friends. At first I was confused, but then I realized that one of my tweets had triggered a lot of negative comments. As ridiculous as it seems, it's to be expected. What exactly were people yelling about? How does it relate to what I mentioned? Is what you're cursing consistent with what I'm saying? Did you guys actually read the whole article? Is the cursing accurate?"
"The logic is that as a second-rate player, I am not highly educated, I earn a good income, I have poor kicking skills, and I am not convinced. By this logic, the men's soccer team often gives the country a hard time and doesn't seem to bring as much joy to the country as Mr. Kung's skits! The internationalization of sketches is an absurd idea; sketches are our unique art form. I admit that I am an amateur in art, and this absurd idea of mine is the same as the mentality of countless fans who want to give advice to the Chinese men's soccer team, but how effective it is is unknown and pure fantasy. I would like to ask, Mr. Gong can give advice to the men's soccer team, pointing out the shortcomings of the industry, why can't I cross the field to provide suggestions for the future development of sketches? Can't I just love sketches? If what I do is wrong, what you guys do must be right?"
"Furthermore, can't you express an opinion if you're uneducated? Can't one express an opinion on events? Is it only politically correct to insult the men's soccer team? (Wealth, strength, democracy, civilization, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, and the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, honesty, and friendliness) How do you understand the socialist core values that even second graders can recite?"
"I may only have a second grade education, but my teachers and coaches have always taught me to be a ball player first. One can be unachievable, but not unmannerly. Being a man starts with behavior. (This was learned in first grade.) Respect others and be polite. Obviously, judging by what happened on Twitter yesterday, I did a passable job, even better than most."
"Please scold more level, has been at this level of scolding I'm afraid it is difficult to touch the practitioners of deep thinking. Soccer is really not playing well, (including me) did not meet the expectations of the people of the country, and even did not meet their own expectations. This is the reality that every practitioner must accept, but also their own must face. There is nothing to defend. I welcome criticism and discussion on a professional level and am always willing to communicate."
"Sports is the best education, although the results did not give the country glory, but politeness, rational analysis, active participation, active communication, dare to take responsibility, these levels I think I did not give the men's soccer team a black eye, did not give soccer people a black eye! Bravery, justice, dare to take responsibility, this is the most profound truth that soccer taught me."
"Until now I'm still not angry or antagonistic, I accept trolling and the way people vent because that's your right. But I prefer to see messages of value, even if they are mocking."
"Please don't kidnap in the name of love, whether you are in a relationship or have children, you should experience it. Stop preaching that hitting you and scolding you and minding you is for your own good. Does hitting and scolding really change you? Did the actions change? Have you all figured out what love is? Again, I ask you all, look at the kids who are learning and practicing soccer before you spray them, don't cut them off from their simple love of the game."
