On March 13th, British soccer media footballfancast published an article analyzing the latest transfer news of English Premier League powerhouse Everton. The article pointed out that Everton transferred player Browning (Jiang Guangtai) to Guangzhou, a move that was praised as a rare wise move by the club in recent years.

According to footballfancast, Everton's performance in the transfer market has historically been up and down, with some questionable trading decisions, especially in recent seasons when the club has invested more than £100 million in transfer fees and barely managed to stay up in the Premier League.

The article mentions that Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin were once Everton's £25 million transfer attractions, but now that Gomes' valuation has fallen to £18 million, his place in the team is in jeopardy, while Gbamin, currently valued at just £8 million, has long since fallen out of Everton's plans, having been loaned to CSKA Moscow back in February. These two deals are just the tip of the iceberg of Everton's transfer market blunders.

Although Everton have not had many satisfactory deals in the transfer market, the sale of their own youth player, Browning (Jiang Guangtai), to Guangzhou for £4.1million is undoubtedly one of the club's rare success stories in recent years.

At the time, Everton priced Jiang Guangtai at £4.1 million, a price that benefited from his Chinese heritage, which is particularly valued by the Chinese league for naturalized players with pedigree. The deal was significant for Everton in 2019 when Jiang was sold for £900,000, with Jiang's transfer fee accounting for 16% of the total cost of the players Everton sold that season.

Jiang Guangtai was an irreplaceable central defender in the eyes of Everton's U23 coaches and his value climbed slightly to £1.08million when he arrived in China. He was then naturalized as a Chinese international by the CFA and renamed Jiang Guangtai. He currently plays 11 games for the Chinese men's soccer team and made 19 appearances in last season's Chinese Super League, helping Guangzhou to 13 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses in 22 matches to finish third in the league.
