In a recent interview with French media outlet footmercato, former national team player Bakambu revealed that he chose to come to China to play soccer mainly for economic reasons and initially planned to stay for only two or three years. He was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the cosmopolitan city of Beijing.
Talking about the year he set foot in the Chinese Super League, Bakambu confessed, "The pursuit of high income was the main reason I came to my country. Once I made up my mind, everything seemed to go smoothly. I got a good contract in China and quickly adjusted to the best. I was well liked in the team and worked well with my foreign teammates. The super-beautiful city of Beijing has acclimatized me deeply and everything here has helped me grow."
"Frankly speaking, at first I only planned to stay for 2-3 years, however, I chose to stay when my contract expired. Time has flown and four years have passed. During this period, I have gained countless joys and it has been a valuable experience." Bakambu confessed that he had not expected to stay in our country for so long.
Meanwhile, Bakambu also said, "I am eager to return to Europe. At the same time, my family life has changed dramatically, I am now a father. A lot of things have changed with that. I had to go back to my family, to the people I love. Watching my children thrive is a normal part of life. I place great value on relationships, which are vital to me. I am flattered by the connection with Barcelona and it has been a driving force for me. It is proof that my work in my country is recognized."
When asked if he has been in touch with European clubs, Bakambu said bluntly, "Yes, I am in close contact with several clubs. Now I have to make a decision and we will see. I want to make the right choice. I am 30 years old but still harbor a love for soccer and I believe more good times await me in the future."
Bakambu terminated his contract with Beijing Guoan on November 30 last year and is currently in free agency. Since joining in 2018, he has made 91 appearances for the team, scoring 61 goals and dishing out 24 assists.
