At 11 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2022, the second round of Group B of the Qatar World Cup Asian qualifiers (i.e., the Round of 12) kicked off with a fierce clash between the Chinese national soccer team and Japan at the Khalifa International Sports Center in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
In the 38th minute of the match, Japan's Kubo Jianying took a swift shot from the arc, which our goalkeeper Yan Junling saved with a timely dive. Immediately afterward, Junya Ito quickly inserted himself into the penalty area and passed the ball accurately, Yuya Osako pounced on the ball in the penalty area, but his shovel shot cleverly grazed the post and almost broke the goal. The touchline referee raised his flag and ruled that the Japanese player was offside, but after slow-motion replay analysis, the attack was not actually offside.
