As the day came to an end on September 8, the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar Asian Qualifiers Stage 3 and Group B matches of the 12-team tournament came to an end. Saudi Arabia narrowly defeated Oman 1-0 away from home at Sultan Qaboos Sports City in Muscat thanks to a brilliant goal from striker Shehri. After two rounds of action, Australia and Saudi Arabia are tied on six points, but due to goal difference, Australia leads the table for now. Japan and Oman are third and fourth in the group with three points. Despite China's two consecutive defeats, a negative goal difference puts Vietnam at the bottom of the table with a -3 disadvantage.

In the first half of the match, Saudi Arabia held the ball for a long time, but neither side was able to form a threatening attack. In the 42nd minute, Saudi Arabia's Faraj sent a precise pass from the right side of the field, and Mouarad cleverly knocked the ball to Shehri, who swept a right-footed shot from near the penalty spot before the defenders could break it down, helping Saudi Arabia take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, both teams remained lackluster in their attacks. Oman tried to change the game through substitutions. In stoppage time, Oman nearly broke through when Salah fired a shot from inside the penalty area, but it was blocked by Saudi Arabia's goalkeeper Owais. In stoppage time, Oman missed another great chance when Makbari's shot went over the crossbar. In the end, Saudi Arabia won 1-0 on the road, tying them with Australia for a second straight win.
