On August 1, the spokesperson for my delegation disclosed that the team's performance in the first half of the event was fully in line with the set objectives. The spokesperson gave a comprehensive review of the team's overall performance.
In the review, the spokesperson particularly pointed out that in the competitive arena of the Tokyo Olympics, Chinese athletes not only went all out to spread the Olympic concept and Chinese sportsmanship, but also realized breakthroughs in the process of challenging the limits of themselves, demonstrating their superb sportsmanship and unyielding will to fight. They not only respected the rules, referees and opponents on the field of play, but also remained humble no matter whether they won or lost, fully reflecting the energetic and aggressive spirit of the young generation of China.
Specifically on individual sports, the spokesman said that China continues to lead in traditional areas of strength such as diving, weightlifting and table tennis, while badminton, shooting, gymnastics and trampoline have also shown a strong rebound. Swimming, rowing and other basic programs have improved significantly compared to the Rio Olympics, and fencing, sailing and other programs are also highlights. In the collective ball sports, facing the Asian rivals, our team generally prevailed, especially the women's triple basketball, rugby, water polo and other sports performance is particularly outstanding. However, volleyball, taekwondo, judo, archery and other sports failed to meet expectations.
It is worth noting that there is still a big gap between soccer, tennis and road cycling and the top international level.
