
In a passionate match on July 21, the first round of the Women's Football Group Stage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics came to an end. A total of 28 goals were scored in these six exciting matches. The Dutch women's soccer team beat the Zambian women's soccer team by a wide margin of 10-3, setting a new record for goals scored in a single game in the history of Olympic women's soccer; while the Swedish women's soccer team beat the U.S. women's soccer team by a score of 3-0, terminating the myth of the opponent's 44 consecutive undefeated matches; the British team, which is also from Europe, also beat the Chilean team by a score of 2-0 to achieve an open door; and the women's soccer team of our country lost by 0-5 in the match with the Brazilian women's soccer team.
In Group E, Great Britain beat Chile 2-0; Japan and Canada played to a 1-1 draw.
Early on in the match, Great Britain showed dominance in both offense and defense. In the 11th minute, Great Britain scored a goal, but the goal was disallowed for offside. In the 18th minute, Hempel scored her first Olympic goal for her country with a header from a narrow angle. In the first half, Great Britain had 12 shots on goal, while Chile had only two shots on the counterattack. In the 73rd minute, White's header was swung in, Blunze picked out a cross from the right side, and White swept in a right-footed shot from no one's interference for the second goal, helping Great Britain to a 2-0 win.
Sinclair scored for Canada in the sixth minute of the Japan-Canada match, but then Japan's Mana Iwabuchi, who plays for Arsenal Women's Soccer, tied the game at 1-1 in the 84th minute.
In Group F matches, our women's soccer team lost 0-5 to Brazil's women's soccer team, while Zambia suffered a 3-10 defeat to the Netherlands. Although the Dutch failed to break the team's record for most goals scored and most goals scored in their history, the two teams combined to score 13 goals, breaking the German women's record of 8-0 goals scored in a single game set at the Athens Olympics. Miedema, who plays for Arsenal Women's Soccer, scored four goals, while Banda, who plays for Shanghai Women's Soccer, scored all of Zambia's goals to complete her hat-trick.
In Group G, Sweden beat the United States 3-0; Australia beat New Zealand 2-1.
The game started off with Sweden pressuring the U.S. left back, Dunn. In the 25th minute, Sweden gave their team the lead on a header by Blakstenius. In the 55th minute, the U.S. offense was stymied despite sending in veterans Lloyd and Lapinauer. In the 72nd minute, U.S. left back Dunn missed again, and Glass crossed from the right for substitute Hertig to head in, eventually helping Sweden to a 3-0 win.
It was the third of 34 losses for the U.S. Women's Soccer team in the Olympic Final Round, and it also ended the U.S. Women's Soccer team's unbeaten streak of 44 consecutive matches since a 1-3 loss to the French Women's Soccer team on Jan. 20, 2019, in the final round of the Olympic Games.
In the match between Australia and New Zealand, Australia scored in the 20th and 33rd minutes to win 2-1.
