With the Tokyo Olympics group stage about to kick off and the first match with Brazil just two weeks away, the 22-player squad for our women's soccer team has finally been finalized. Surprisingly, there are a number of core players in this list who have not been selected. In this regard, the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has specially issued an article pointing out that the failure of well-known players, such as Tang Jiali, appears to be particularly abrupt.
The AFC official revealed, "On Wednesday, our women's soccer team, led by Jia Xiuquan, officially announced its roster for the Tokyo Olympics. The list featured the names of several young players, while some former stars failed to make the cut. Among them, the most notable is striker Tang Jiali. Captains Ma Jun, Lou Jiahui and Yao Wei also failed to escape this fate."
"There is no shortage of high-level players among the new faces on the roster, which includes four players who have not been selected for the national team and five players who have made no more than five national team appearances. The newcomers are goalkeeper Ding Xuan, midfielders Liu Jing and Wang Yanwen, and striker Uri Gumura from Changchun, none of whom have a record of appearances in the World Series."
The AFC's official assessment said that despite the controversial list, Jia Xiuquan's squad still contained some experienced players, such as captain Wu Haiyan, strikers Wang Frost and Wang Shanshan, who all managed to make the cut, and goalkeeper Peng Shimeng, who also made it through to the tournament.
In the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, China's women's soccer team is in Group F with Brazil, the Netherlands and Zambia, and their first group match will kick off on July 21st.
