June 9, Beijing time, the 2022 Qatar World Cup Asian Qualifying Tournament second stage and the 40-team group H battle continued, South Korea won 5-0 over Sri Lanka, while Lebanon lost 2-3 to Turkmenistan in a dramatic reversal of fortune. South Korea topped the group with 13 points after a stunning performance that saw them win four and draw one of their five matches, scoring 20 goals and shutting out their opponents. Shanghai Shenhua's Kim Shin-wook scored twice, while 19-year-old Chung Sang-bin also contributed a goal. Lebanon, on the other hand, is still leading the group standings, but failed to maintain its unbeaten status in the face of Turkmenistan's shutout. In this round of matches, South Korea's head coach Bento made minor changes to his starting lineup, with Chinese Super League players Son Jun-ho and Kim Shin-wook both getting their debuts. In the 15th minute, Kim Shin-wook scored the first goal of the match with a brilliant shovel shot. Then, in the 22nd minute, Song Min-gyu sent a fine pass to Lee Dong-kyung, who scored easily to extend the lead to 2-0. In the second half, Kim Shin-wook showed his courage again and scored twice with a header from a pass on the right side, helping Korea to a 3-0 lead. Subsequent goals from Hwang Hee-chan and Jung Sang-bin gave Korea a final 5-0 win. In the other match, Turkmenistan experienced an up-and-down contest. They came back from a two-goal deficit to score two goals in five minutes, the last of which came in extra time, to beat Lebanon 3-2. Nonetheless, the Lebanese remain in the lead of the group standings, but a direct clash with South Korea on June 13th will undoubtedly have a major impact on their position in the tournament.
