Compared to the previous list, Syria's head coach Maroul has made adjustments this time, recalling top center forward Soma, former Henan Jianye foreigner Saleh and left winger Omari. A press conference was held to announce the permanent expulsion of Khribin from the national team.

Khribin won the 2019 AFC Champions League with Saudi Hilal and was himself named Asian Footballer of the Year in 2017. This season, Khribin moved to Wahdah in the UAE and has been in hot form so far with 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and contributing 3 assists.

Despite the public opinion in Syria expecting Hribin to return to the national team, Maroul did not give Hribin a chance as Syria had basically locked up a spot in the Round of 12.

It is reported that the Syrian team plans to launch a small training camp in Damascus on May 16, followed by a trip to Dubai from May 20 to 30 for intensive preparations and a flight to China on May 30 to compete.
