After extensive coverage by several international media outlets, such as the BBC and the Guardian, former American soccer star Wambach was arrested by U.S. police for drunk driving. After her release, she issued a sincere statement of apology on her personal social media account.
According to reports Saturday afternoon local time, patrol officers stopped Wambach's vehicle when she drove through a red light. Police officers detected that she had been drinking during the check and brought her back to a nearby police station for a breathalyzer test. A Portland Police spokesperson revealed that Wambach failed the sobriety test.
