On the night of March 30th, Japan and Mongolia were locked in a fierce battle in Group F of the Qatar World Cup Asian Round of 40 at the Chiba Tomita eSports Stadium. Takumi Minamino broke the deadlock for Japan with a precise left-footed shot just 12 minutes into the match. The Japanese team took a 5-0 lead at halftime with goals from Isao Osako, Daichi Kamada, and Hidemasa Morita. In the second half, Takuma Asano added two more goals each, including two from Sho Inagaki, Isao Osako, Junya Ito and Henwu Furuhashi, with Isao Osako completing his hat-trick. In the end, Japan swept Mongolia by a huge margin of 14-0, equaling the highest scoreline in the Asian region of the World Qualifying Tournament of 14-0 set by Iran, and just one goal short of equaling the largest scoreline in Japan's history of 15-0 (against the Philippines in 1967).
Prior to the match, Japan had won four consecutive matches in the group stage, scoring 13 goals and conceding none to top the group. In the first match against Mongolia, Japan also won 6-0. In the 12th minute, Japan's Azumi Ogawa crossed the ball from the left side of the field, Mongolia's defense made a mistake, and Ken Matsubara sent a precise low ball from the right side of the field, which Takumi Minamino easily put into the net to make it 1-0, Japan's lead.
