On the closing day of August 11th, the curtain finally came down on the competitive stage of the Paris Olympics. France, as the host, ended up in fifth place in the medal table with 16 gold medals, 26 silver medals and 22 bronze medals in the fierce competition.
The French delegation had a strong showing at the Olympics and here are their top three highlights:
The men's volleyball team defeated Poland in the final by an emphatic 3-0 margin to win the gold medal!
However, the women's volleyball players met their Waterloo in the group stage and failed to advance to the next round.
The men's soccer team battled Spain to 3-5 in the final, losing despite the loss, to win the silver medal.
The women's soccer team lost 0-1 to Brazil in the quarterfinals to finish sixth.
The men's basketball team defeated the United States in the final, 87-98, and also won the silver medal.
The women's basketball team, on the other hand, narrowly lost to the United States in the final, 66-67, and also placed second.
