The clash was Shanghai Shenhua's second consecutive match in the Equalizer Cup. In the first match, the team's legendary veteran Yu Hanchao scored a solo goal in a 1:0 come-from-behind victory over Qatari powerhouse Duhail.

With the addition of a new coach, Shanghai Shenhua's dream of winning the Chinese Super League title in the new season is becoming clearer and clearer.
