Why on earth was he voted as the best skipper but said goodbye to the Dongguan Guanlian?
Ans: This is a delicate balance of communication and choice, and each person in a different position may give a different answer, but I think this is certainly the best choice after careful consideration.
So, what are your thoughts on the results of your coaching this season?
Almost flawless, in my opinion! If we look at a season as a project, we have to focus on three key elements: financial commitment, time planning and quality of results.
In terms of capital investment, Dongguan Guanlian adheres to the concept of low-cost operation and invests less in reinforcements and team construction, which makes it the least invested group of clubs in the Central League.
In terms of time factor, the team suffered a big change at the beginning of the year and did not start to gather and train until the beginning of April. It was not until mid-April that the coaching team and players were considered complete, and even the foreign aid arrived only after the league started. Therefore, the team had to complete all tasks efficiently under time constraints.
As for the quality of results, the team finished seventh in the league. It should be noted that the top six teams in the Central League all invested several times more than we did, so this result has greatly exceeded the goals and tasks set by the club at the beginning of the year.
This year, Dongguan Guanlian's 17 and 18 year old players have been given many opportunities to play and they have excelled. Their outstanding performance is reflected in the statistics, including six goals and three assists. They also made a great contribution by contributing key goals at crucial moments to help the team finish relegation ahead of schedule.
Reaching these goals means that Dongguan DGU will no longer have to worry about the pool of young players in recent seasons.
A few years ago, Wang Hongwei became the youngest head coach in the third tier of Chinese professional soccer. Over the years, he has honed his skills in the grassroots leagues and accumulated a wealth of coaching experience.
With his increasingly mature coaching skills, Wang Hongwei has managed to take the Guanlian Youth Army on an exciting journey to the Central League.
Wang Hongwei often attributes his achievements to the trust of the investors, the unity of the club and the hard work of the players, and it is these joint efforts that have allowed the team to continue to develop in a stable manner.
Q: Thank you, Mr. Wang, for the interview, what are your next plans?
Answer: Currently I am in Tianjin pursuing a postgraduate program and will take time to spend with my family upon completion. As for my future plans, I will go with the flow and actively seize opportunities.
As the 2023 season draws to a successful conclusion, we look forward to seeing this outstanding local manager contribute more exciting chapters to Chinese professional soccer in his future coaching career!
